The typewriter effect is a classic text animation. It creates an illusion that the text is being typed onto the screen one letter at a time, just like an old-fashioned typewriter.

In this tutorial, I will show how to use the DaVinci Resolve feature to recreate a typewriter effect with just a few clicks.

How to do the Typewriter Effect in DaVinci Resolve?

Step 1: Go to the “Effects” tab.

Step 2: Choose “Titles” in the left Toolbox menu.

Step 3: Click “Text+” and move it to your timeline.

You can zoom in or zoom out the timeline for more precise adjustments.

Step 4: Now, you can write your text. You can change it later without redoing the effect.

Step 5: Place the Playhead at the beginning of the text clip.

Step 6: Scroll down the “Video” tab and find the “Write on” option at the bottom.

Step 7: Click on the rightmost dot and move it to the left. The “End” value must be “0.0

Step 8: Press the “Keyframe” icon on the right to make it red.

You can also set keyframes using a shortcut, which is faster.

Step 9: Place the Playhead where you want your typewriter effect to stop. At this point, your text will be fully typed.

Step 10:  Scroll down the “Video” tab and find the “Write on” option and press the “Keyframe” icon on the right to make it red.

Step 11: Click on the right dot on the line (which you previously moved to the left) and move it to the rightmost point. The “End” value must be “1.0

Now play your video and enjoy the typewriter effect applied to your text clip.
